Our House Reel

Alton Towers / Cbeebies Land

  • client / Alton Towers
  • agency / TBWA\Manchester
  • production / MTP
  • director / Liam & Grant

For our third theme park job in as many months we teamed up again with directors Liam & Grant. It’s fair to say by this point we were all getting quite dizzy. On this occasion we worked directly with TBWA helping them generate not 1 but 2 fully CG TV commercials for Alton Towers on what was a challenging budget. A detailed animatic helped inform the very tight two day shooting schedule. In addition to building many assets from scratch we also integrated Cbeebies characters and managed their various IP requirements smoothly throughout the process.

Thorpe Park / Rise of the Demon

  • client / Thorpe Park
  • agency / TBWA\Manchester
  • production / MTP
  • director / Toby Meakins

Create a truly scary ad for Derren Browns Ghost Train was the simply brief. Toby Meakins a director with a track record in horror wisely chose to capture as much as possible in camera. After supervising the shoot we completed off-line editing and added a number of post effects to enhance many of the shots. Then the final grade was all that was required to take us to that dark place.

Chessington / The Gruffalo River Ride

  • client / Chessington
  • agency / TBWA\Manchester
  • production / MTP
  • director / Liam & Grant

Oh No!! it’s a Gruffalo. Well actually... we jumped at the chance to work with the much loved Gruffalo. Having received the original assets form Magic Light Pictures we created an animatic that once signed off could truly streamline the live action shoot. MTP did a great job with production allowing Liam & Grant to direct a charming ad that did us all proud.

Tarsier / Little Nightmares

  • client / Tarsier
  • agency / Fire Without Smoke

This was our second collaboration with creative games agency Fire Without Smoke. On this occasion we were asked to create a seamless journey into and out of actual game play footage from Tarsiers fourth coming Little Nightmares. It was a real pleasure matching the distinctive look and feel of this beautifully crafted game. Like everyone we eagerly await it’s release.

Magic Myne / Mole

  • client / Magic Myne
  • agency / Croud

Thorpe Park / Distorted Reality

  • client / Thorpe Park
  • agency / TBWA
  • production / MTP
  • director / Ben Craig

Derren Brown has designed a Virtual Reality Ghost Train for Thorpe Park and we worked closely with TBWA to create the launch TVC. With none of the actual sets having been built yet we had no choice but to build all of the environments in full CG. The green screen shoot provided us with the actor performances and we seamlessly dropped our rendered 3D in behind them. This gave us and the client full control to manipulate each shot during Post Production.

Alton Towers / Beyond

  • client / Alton Towers
  • agency / TBWA
  • production / MTP
  • director / Luc Schurgers

Alton Towers has just opened the ‘Universes First Virtaul Reality Roller Coaster’ and we, along with the good folks at TBWA, were responsible for the Launch TVC. Thorpe Park / An island like no other

  • client / Thorpe Park

Hoxton Redsox have recently spent 8 weeks on 'an Island like no other'... the latest TV spot for Thorpe Park. Stefan Gerstheimer supervised the 12 strong team through all stages of CG involved in achieving the 'hyper real' island for TBWA Manchester. Redsox worked closely with the agency and its creatives on all aspects of the ad, from the 'epicness' of the island design and construction to the simpler sky replacements and plate clean-ups. It was great working directly with TBWA Manchester on a project of this nature and a pleasure to help them realise their vision. Everyone here's looking forward to more theme park fun in the future.

Thorpe Park / Fright Nights

I Awake / music video

  • client / Universal Music Group
  • production / Rokkit
  • director / Mike Daly

We completed post recently on a music video which was to be more of an art house style short film rather than a traditional music video. The artist Sarah Blasko has a great voice and unique style and we were happy to get involved. Our specific task was providing all the smoke simulations which were deftly handled by Christos Parliaros in Houdini. We lit the smoke to match the on set lighting which helped `bed` the sequences in to the overall look of the piece.

CAT / Earthmovers

  • client / CAT
  • agency / Fold7
  • production / Fold7
  • director / Fold7

Fold 7 masterminded this cinema ad for the CAT Earthmovers campaign. The acrobatic models were captured on film using a timeslice rig in a green screen studio. The two elements were then composited by designer Paul Clements.

Sony / Test HD

  • client / Sony
  • agency / Fallon
  • production / RSA Films
  • director / Johnny Hardstaff

Fallon London teamed up with director Johnny Hardstaff to create a series of seven spots for Sony. The idents that aired during the 2008 F1 season on ITV, are based on the simple premise of "testing high definition to the limit". As the idents were heavily augmented with photo-real 3D it was necessary to record HDRI's for each lighting set up on the three day shoot. Post production was completed at RSA, supervised by Paul McGeoch.

HSBC / Bad Boy

  • client / HSBC
  • agency / JWT London
  • production / RSA Films
  • director / Joe Carnahan

Radiohead / Like Spinning Plates

  • client / Radiohead
  • agency / Parlophone
  • production / Black Dog
  • director / Johnny Hardstaff
  • awards / D&AD nominated

Johnny Hardstaff was approached by Radiohead to direct a longer format 'special commission' for the track 'Like Spinning Plates'. Johnny designed all components, environments, graphics and live action scenes. Initially only a few CG shots of the spinning centrifuge were required. However early tests based on Johnny's artwork were so successful that ultimately most shots in the 6 minute film contained CG. Paul McGeoch led a small team who worked tirelessly for 7 weeks on the expanded shot list. Final compositing was expertly handled by Barnsley at the Mill London.
